South African Gem Squash

I used to grow these yummy vegetables on my farm. Nowdays I do not grow any vegetables, however, today I found them in a shop, just had to buy one . I like them cut in half, deseed with a teaspoon and then steam, boil or microwave for three minutes. Add butter and pepper and scoop out the flesh from the skin. Yum! you can also stuff them and bake in the oven.

I love gems. They are hard to get in the US. Unfortunately there is a local gem that is the size of a billiard ball and is related to the zuchinni - very onfusing for some people.
