Studio Tidy up & Playing around

Having a workshop coming up in a few days time put the pressure on to have a tidy up and get the studio organised. While I was doing that I came across these beads made years ago.

Some are wrapped in copper wire which got me thinking about all the work I did with metal copper sheet. I found some in the cupboard and then had a play, cutting, folding, hammering and then applying heat patina. This was the result, I could incorporate it in a piece of jewellery maybe.

Photographing Jewellery

It's not easy taking good pics of silver jewellery. There are reflections, mirror images (usually me holding the camera) and so I've recently purchased a "light cube" that difuses the light and helps with all the reflections and glare. Two lights on stands came with the package and different coloured back drops. Well, as it's still pretty hot here in Bindoon 38 degrees again today I've stayed inside with the air cooler on and played at taking photos. Here are some of the results of pieces of jewellery I've recently made.

Textures for metal & polymer clays

Today was 36 degrees and not much fun doing 'stuff' outside. It was a good opportunity to work in my studio with the 'aircon' on.
I had a good play making texture plates with scrap polymer. I'll use these in pieces of jewellery I make and in my forthcoming workshops. You can never have enough textures!
I am thinking today how grateful I am to be in my studio in the cool, whilst fellow Australians in Victoria who survived the bush fires, are in living in tents and wearing other peoples clothes.

Silver Jewellery @ MCSJ

I've been slack in taking a photo of the silver jewellery items I made with Lisa Cain at the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery. Most of the items are silver, there are a few in the right of the pic that are the copper clay pieces that I made. It was a fantastic week, I learnt so much........now to put it all into practice.
